Supporting Positive Ageing

Supporting Positive Ageing

The Certificate in Supporting Positive Ageing is free for HIV peer navigators and other practitioners, such as aged care and community development workers, who are supporting people with HIV to make the most of the aged care services and supports available to them.

The certificate is not accredited training — it is a training program offered privately by the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA) as part of its NAPWHA Learning initiative. Contact and you will receive a speedy response with a login to access the training.

About this module

The number of people living with HIV aged 50 years and over is growing nationally and globally.

People are living longer and healthier lives and the number of new infections is falling. This means the proportion of those living with HIV who are older is also expected to rise.

Many older people living with HIV are happy, healthy and thriving. They are living rich and fulfilling lives.

At the same time, many older people living with HIV face challenges and uncertainties in their lives. Some of these are commonly associated with all people as they age, while others are unique challenges faced by those who are ageing with HIV.

As a care and support provider it is important to understand the needs and experiences of people living with HIV as they age. That way, you will know how you can best support them.

This module will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to effectively support older people living with HIV to live well and remain connected.
